Backwater Mandap — Ivory & Brass
Open mandap on a timber deck, brass uprights, drape kept light enough to move in the wind off the water.

The idea
A mandap for an open waterside setting, where the wind decides more than the drawing does. Everything is chosen to move a little rather than fight it.
Materials
- Ivory handloom cotton, not synthetic sheer
- Unlacquered brass, left to dull
- White roses and jasmine, no dyed stems
- Dark oiled timber underfoot
How it is built

Weighted at the base, loose at the top
Uprights are ballasted below the deck line so the canopy can lift in a gust without the frame shifting. A rigid drape would tear or drag the structure.

Sightline through, not into
The back of the mandap is left open. The water is the backdrop; anything built there would be competing with it.
- 03
Built for a sunset slot
The palette is set for low warm light. Under midday sun the same materials read flat, so the ceremony time changes the specification.
